The mud pit swallowed her deeper with every frantic struggle. A mother deer, trapped and sinking, cried out to the vast, indifferent savanna. Her breath came in ragged gasps, each movement only dragging her further into the viscous, inescapable trap.

The mother deer, seeing her chance, began to stir. Her strength was failing, but this was it. Her last, best hope rested on this improbable bridge, provided by an unlikely savior.
The world held its breath as she took her first step.
Slowly.
Painfully.
One hoof.
Then another.
The mud clung, desperate to keep its prey.
But the tree held firm.
She dragged herself forward.
Inch by agonizing inch.
Until, finally, she was free.
Mud-caked but alive, the elephant then gently sprayed water, a gesture of comfort and triumph.
