The Lone Survivor
The brown dog sat huddled on the roof of a silver sedan, its fur matted and dripping. Below its paws, the world had transformed into a churning sea of brown water. There was nowhere left to run. The current was swift and unforgiving, swallowing fences and trees as it surged across the landscape. Every few seconds, the dog let out a quiet whimper, eyes fixed on the distant shore that seemed miles away.
A Splash of Yellow
Suddenly, a flash of bright yellow broke through the grey mist. A woman in a raincoat was fighting against the tide, her body submerged up to her waist. She pushed through the heavy pressure of the flood, her eyes locked on the car. Hey there, she called out, her voice a soothing contrast to the roar of the water. Its okay, baby. I got you. The dog watched her approach, trembling with a mix of fear and desperate hope. It didn’t growl or retreat; it simply waited for the miracle to arrive.
The Weight of Life
When she finally reached the vehicle, she didn’t rush. She extended a hand, letting the dog sniff her fingers and realize she was a friend. Within seconds, she scooped the small creature into her arms, pulling it tight against her chest. The return journey was even more difficult, balancing the weight of the dog while navigating the uneven ground beneath the surface. When her boots finally hit the tall green grass of the embankment, she collapsed to her knees, sobbing with relief as the dog licked her face. They were both cold, they were both wet, but they were finally safe.
