An Unexpected Shield
The rain lashed against the windshield, blurring the grey horizon into the asphalt. Most drivers would have kept going, but something about the white shape standing defiantly in the middle of the road forced him to hit the brakes. It was a swan, its massive wings arched wide like a protective umbrella against the downpour.
As the man stepped out of his car, the true nature of the swan’s mission became clear. Tucked snugly against the bird’s warm belly, a tiny tabby kitten peered out with wide, fearful eyes. The swan wasn’t just standing there; it was acting as a living shield for a creature it had no reason to help.
Into the Warmth

A New Family
Back at home, the transformation was complete. The cold, wet road was a distant memory. The man sat on a bench, watching his two new companions with a quiet smile. Side by side, the swan and the kitten ate their dinner from separate bowls, as comfortable with each other as lifelong friends.
