A Puzzling Plea for Help
The golden retriever stood on the grassy shoulder of a busy road, barking incessantly at a dark bundle in the grass. At first glance, it was nothing more than a discarded mess, but the dog knew better. A female duck and her tiny brood of ducklings were hopelessly entangled in a mass of discarded fishing net, their frantic movements only pulling the thin cord tighter.
The Desperate Search
Realizing his owner wasn’t immediately following, the dog sprinted away, heading straight for the man. The man was busy chopping wood, seemingly oblivious to the unfolding tragedy down the road. The retriever didn’t stop until he caught the man’s attention, pacing anxiously and barking, demanding he drop his axe and follow. Something was wrong, and the dog would not take no for an answer.
A Delicate Rescue
Finally understanding, the man dropped his tools and grabbed his bag, sprinting after the eager dog. Back at the roadside, the man knelt beside the trapped birds. With the retriever watching intently by his side, he took out his scissors and began the painstaking work of cutting through the thick tangle of nylon. One by one, the ducklings were freed, finally scrambling to safety before the mother duck was snipped free, flying away with her family intact.
