Its coat is slick with water, and it shakes itself dry, droplets scattering into the air. It runs directly to the officers who have gathered near the fountain.
One officer kneels on the concrete, his hands running firmly over the dog’s shoulders and neck. A small crowd of onlookers surrounds them, their hands clapping. The dog sits, panting heavily, its tongue lolling out as it looks up at the officer.
