Careful Rescue Of An Injured Bear Cub On Forest Road

A Sudden Halt on the Forest Road

The sedan rounded the curve of the mountain pass, its tires humming against the dark asphalt. Ahead, a small, dark shape emerged from the tree line. The vehicle braked hard, but the momentum was too much. The car struck the bear cub, sending it spinning onto the road.

The small creature landed hard on the pavement, limbs splayed out against the white painted lines. It did not move as the sedan slowed to a crawl and eventually pulled off to the shoulder. Another vehicle approached from the opposite direction, braking to a stop just a few feet from the still form.

Reaching Out to the Fallen Cub

A man in an orange polo shirt stepped out of his vehicle. He walked slowly toward the center of the road, his gaze fixed on the cub. He kneeled on the rough, hot surface of the lane, his knees pressing into the tar.

He reached out, his hand hovering for a moment before settling gently onto the cub’s fur. The bear lay completely motionless. The man pulled a bottle of white liquid from his side and began to pour it over the cub’s head and body, the fluid soaking into its dense coat.

He paused, watching for any sign of a breath. He reached for a bottle of water, tipping it carefully to let a steady stream pour over the animal’s face. He smoothed the fur back with his palm, his movements rhythmic and repetitive.

A Careful Stabilization

The man peeled a thick strip of white material from a roll and began to wrap it around the cub’s neck. He pulled the bandage taut, securing it firmly but gently so it sat like a collar. He worked with focus, his head bowed as he tucked the loose ends into place.

After finishing the bandage, he grabbed a plastic container from his car. He filled it with water and set it on the ground right in front of the cub’s muzzle. He held the container steady with one hand, his posture hunched over to provide shade for the small animal.

The cub’s head dipped toward the container. It began to lap at the water, its small tongue breaking the surface of the liquid. The man remained still on his knees, watching as the cub drank, his hands resting on his thighs.

The cub continued to drink from the plastic bin, its head lowered into the container. The man stayed by its side on the yellow line, watching the small animal drink as the empty road stretched out behind them.
