The Confrontation Begins

He tries to pull his hand away, but the older man holds firm. The older man lists his credentials, mentioning his years as an army boxing champion.
He describes the outcome for those who faced him in the ring, detailing the number of broken jaws he caused. He squeezes the younger man’s hand until the man’s knuckles turn white.
The Lesson Delivered
The younger man’s breathing turns shallow. He stops bouncing and pulls his free hand against his chest, watching his own fingers as they are crushed within the older man’s grip.
The older man releases his hand abruptly. He stands tall, his fists clenched at his sides, waiting to see if the younger man will continue the challenge.
The younger man keeps his eyes downcast. He does not raise his fists again. He slowly turns his back and begins to walk away from the gravel lot.
The older man bends down, pulls a white cloth from his pocket, and begins wiping his boots clean. He focuses only on the leather, brushing away the spot where the man had spit, as the younger man disappears into the darkness behind him.
