A Tiny Figure Along The Mountain Pass
The small white goat lay motionless against the bright green slope, its side covered in a dense, dark cluster of insects. Traffic moved past on the paved road, a white sedan and a dark SUV passing just feet away from the vulnerable animal. It remained curled on its side, unresponsive to the rumble of passing engines.
A man in a bright red polo shirt stepped out of his vehicle and walked toward the edge of the asphalt. He reached the animal and bent his knees, placing his hands firmly on the goat’s neck and flank. The creature did not struggle as he turned its head and neck, positioning it comfortably against the earth.
A Careful Intervention
He reached for a plastic bottle and unscrewed the cap, letting a thin stream of clear liquid flow over the concentration of insects clinging to the goat’s side. The man held his hand over the area, smoothing the white fur and checking the extent of the irritation.
He then retrieved a spray canister from his supplies. With precise movements, he applied the treatment directly onto the affected area, letting the mist settle into the white coat. His hands moved in rhythmic, gentle circles to ensure the medicine covered the irritated patch of skin.
The Process Of Healing
The man reached for a piece of medical tape. He smoothed it down over the goat’s side, pressing the adhesive firmly into the animal’s fur to create a secure, protective patch. The young goat rested on the ground, its breathing steady as the man continued to work with focus and deliberation.
He wiped the area clean and applied a second, smaller bandage near the goat’s neck. The goat shifted slightly, lifting its head as the man patted its back. The treatment was complete, leaving the animal looking more comfortable than when it was first found.
A Quiet Return To Life
The man sat on the grass near the road and held his palm out toward the goat. He offered a small handful of feed, watching as the young animal stood up and nudged his hand. The goat lowered its head, nibbling at the food while the man stroked its ears and neck.
The mountain breeze moved through the high grass as the man stayed low to the ground with the animal. He rested his hand on the goat’s back, leaning in to offer more feed as the animal wandered slightly. The goat grazed on the sparse vegetation, moving with newfound energy.
The man knelt on the side of the road, offering the last of the feed to the goat. He stood up, giving the animal one final pat on the head before turning back toward his vehicle. The white goat stood steady on the grassy incline, head tilted downward as it chewed the last of the food from the man’s fingers.
