A Sudden Plunge Into The Deep Ocean
The golden retriever stood on the center console, pressing his muddy paws against the dashboard as he barked at the driver.
The man kept his eyes on the road, turning the steering wheel as the vehicle moved along the winding coastal highway.
Below them, waves crashed against the jagged rocks of the cliffside as they rounded a sharp bend.
Suddenly, the tires lost traction, sending the black sports car crashing through the metal guardrail.

The golden retriever clawed at the driver’s shoulder, pawing at his limp body in an attempt to wake him.
When the man did not move, the dog turned his attention to the glass window, scratching at the smooth surface as the water level outside rose.
Seeing the water rising around the frame, the dog reached down into the side compartment and gripped a red emergency safety hammer in his mouth.
He swung his head back and forth, striking the driver-side window repeatedly with the metal tip.
Small fractures appeared, growing larger with each physical impact.
The entire window shattered inward with a dull pop, and a wall of cold ocean water rushed through the opening.
The sudden current filled the interior, lifting the dog’s paws off the seats and submerging both of them in the dark cabin.
The Fight To Reach The Surface
The golden retriever squeezed his body through the broken window, kick-stretching his hind legs to swim outside the sinking vehicle.
He circled back toward the open driver-side door, grabbing the thick collar of the driver’s black sweater with his teeth.
With his jaws clamped tight onto the fabric, the dog kicked his legs, pulling the limp weight of the man out of the driver’s seat.
He swam upward, dragging the man toward the bright sunlight filtering down through the surface of the water.
Air bubbles escaped from the man’s nose as they moved higher into the lighter blue water.
They broke through the surface, the dog paddling hard to keep the man’s chin above the rolling waves.
Dragging the heavy weight of the soaked clothes, the dog slowly hauled the unconscious driver onto the wet sand of the shore.
A Rescue On The Sand
The dog stood over the man’s chest, placing both front paws onto his breastbone and pressing down with his full weight.
He barked loudly, his jaws open, pressing down again and again until the man gasped and coughed up ocean water.
The driver’s fingers twitched in the wet sand as his breathing returned to normal.
The man opened his eyes, rolled onto his side to clear his lungs, and slowly sat up on the wet beach.
The man pulled the wet dog close to his chest, burying his face in the damp golden fur as two rescue workers in red helmets sprinted across the wet sand toward them.
