The Confrontation Begins
A woman with long red hair wearing a black dress steps firmly into the path of a newcomer. She plants her hand out, palm facing forward, physically barring the woman from entering the restaurant.
The newcomer stops, her eyes fixed on the woman in the black dress. The hostess points a sharp finger toward the floor, her chin tilted upward as she speaks.
She gestures toward the woman’s feet, where white sneakers rest against the polished dark floor tiles. The hostess taps her foot, looking at the newcomer’s outfit with a rigid posture.
The newcomer remains still, her hands resting at her sides. She holds a large tote bag by the straps, her gaze steady.
A Tense Exchange
The hostess crosses her arms tightly against her chest. She stands at the base of a staircase, the large glass chandelier behind her casting a warm glow over the wood-paneled walls.
The newcomer speaks, her voice level. She lifts her chin slightly as she informs the hostess of her reservation.
The hostess laughs, a sharp sound that cuts through the quiet of the room. She gestures with an open palm toward the door, her head shaking slowly from side to side.
The newcomer pulls her shoulders back. She takes a half-step forward, narrowing her eyes. She informs the hostess that she will speak to a manager if the behavior continues.
The hostess pulls a leather-bound book to her chest, her face turning a deep shade of red. She snaps the book shut and takes a threatening step toward the guest.
The Tables Turn
The guest reaches into her large tote bag, moving with slow, deliberate motions. She pulls out a black document folder.
She opens the folder, revealing pages filled with text. She turns the folder around so the hostess can see the contents.
The hostess lowers her arms, her grip on her own notebook loosening. She stares at the pages while the newcomer speaks.
The chef walks into the foyer from the dining area. He wears his white uniform, a large stainless steel ladle held firmly in his hand.
He walks past the hostess and approaches the newcomer, who stands by the podium. The chef gestures with his ladle toward the exit door.
The hostess drops her chin toward her chest. She turns and walks toward the double doors, followed by another staff member in black. The chef stands by the podium, his posture upright as the staff members exit the building, closing the doors behind them.
