A Dangerous Place For A Tiny Traveler
The tires of a massive grey pickup truck kicked up loose gravel as they rolled past a tiny white puppy sitting in a deep crack on the mountain highway.
A white sedan followed close behind, its engine humming loudly as it swept past the small, defenseless animal in the opposite lane.
The puppy shivered, its small paws gripping the rough edges of the cracked asphalt as the wind from the passing vehicles pushed it down.
It let out a soft whine, its nose twitching as it looked down the long, empty road stretching into the high pine forest.
A third silver SUV rushed past on the adjacent lane, sending another gust of cold mountain wind over the puppy’s damp white fur.
The puppy kept its body pressed close to the dirt filling the gap, too small to climb out of the pavement fissure on its own.
Its dark eyes blinked as it watched the distant mountain peaks, completely exposed to the open road.
An Unexpected Savior Appears
A black motorcycle appeared in the distance, descending the winding mountain road toward the deep crevice in the asphalt.
The rider, clad in a dark helmet and leather, slowed his bike and brought the machine to a stop right in front of the dog.
He pushed down the metal kickstand with his heavy boot, securing the motorcycle on the sloped asphalt lane.
The man swung his leg over the seat, his leather boots clicking against the road as he stepped away from the bike and walked over to the crack.
He knelt on the rough pavement, his black leather jacket creaking as he reached both gloved hands down toward the tiny animal.
The puppy looked up, its tail giving a quick, hesitant wag as the man’s black gloves gently cupped its small body.
He carefully lifted the white dog out of the deep road crack, cradling it in his arms to keep it warm.
A Brand New Life Begins
The man held the puppy close to his chest, checking its paws before tucking it securely into the open front of his leather jacket.
He zipped the jacket up to his chest, leaving only the puppy’s small head peeking out over the zipped collar to breathe.
With the puppy safely secured against his chest, the man mounted his motorcycle once again and started the loud engine.
They rode down the scenic mountain highway together, the puppy’s ears flapping slightly in the cool mountain breeze.
Later, at a house with a green lawn, the man knelt next to a grey wooden doghouse with a bone-shaped sign reading “Buddy.”
He placed a bowl of food on the brown mat, smiling as the small white puppy stepped forward to eat.
The man ran his gloved hand over the puppy’s back as it licked the edge of the metal bowl.
