City Cop Stops Traffic For Tabby Mom And Her Five Kittens

A Dangerous City Sidewalk

A tabby cat pressed her belly close to the concrete curb, her ears twitching as yellow cabs sped past. Behind her, five identical striped kittens huddled together, their small paws shuffling backward from the rushing wind of a passing bus.

The mother cat looked left and right, her tail flicking with tension as she sized up the multi-lane street. The kittens mirrored her movements, keeping their eyes locked on her stripe-patterned back.

An Unexpected Escort

A golden retriever trotted down the sidewalk, stopping right beside the feline family. The large dog lowered his head, sniffing the mother cat’s nose before gently nudging one of the kittens with his snout.

The mother cat did not arch her back or hiss; instead, she leaned her shoulder against the dog’s golden leg. The retriever stood tall, blocking the kittens from the crowded sidewalk traffic and creating a protective barrier.

With the retriever leading the way, the cats moved toward the white stripes of the pedestrian crosswalk.

Halting the City Traffic

A police officer standing at the corner noticed the unusual group approaching the curb. He stepped directly onto the asphalt, raising his left hand toward the oncoming traffic.

Brakes squealed as a line of yellow taxis and buses came to a complete stop behind the white crosswalk line. The officer turned his attention down, bending over to look the golden retriever and the mother cat in the eye.

The dog wagged his tail once, while the tabby cat brushed her side against the officer’s heavy black boot.

A Safe Passage

The officer walked alongside the group, keeping his hand raised to ensure the cars remained stationary. The five kittens marched in a perfect, single-file line behind the golden retriever and their mother.

Upon reaching the opposite curb, the officer turned, stood at attention, and lowered his head in a deep bow toward the animals.

The golden retriever led the cat family down the quiet, tree-lined sidewalk, their tails swaying in unison as they disappeared into the sunlight.
