The Interaction Begins
An older man wearing a tan jacket walks across the tiled floor of a bright, open car dealership. He approaches a dark blue SUV parked near the window. A man in a sharp black suit and red tie steps toward him, moving quickly to place himself between the older man and the vehicle.
The salesman extends a hand outward, his palm flat and fingers spread. He tells the man to be careful, stating that the vehicle is not for looking. He keeps his shoulders squared and his chin tilted upward, blocking the older man’s path to the driver’s side door.
The customer holds a document in his hand, keeping his arm steady as he explains he has an appointment to view the SUV. The salesman does not look at the paper. Instead, he shifts his weight, his eyes narrowing as he insists that appointments are reserved for serious buyers, not people passing time in the showroom.
A Refusal Met With Persistence
The customer reaches out, attempting to hand over the paperwork. The salesman does not take it. He waves his hand dismissively through the air, telling the man that his name is not important enough to interrupt his morning. He gestures toward the exit, telling the man to stand back from the vehicle.
The customer keeps his eyes locked on the salesman. He remains standing in his original position, his posture upright. He calmly mentions that he has already spoken with someone regarding the purchase of the SUV. The salesman laughs, shaking his head slightly. He tells the customer that this is a place for old dreams and that he already has an appointment.
The customer speaks again, his voice even. He tells the man that he might want to read the full note before continuing. Behind them, a woman sitting at a desk looks up from her computer screen. Her mouth drops slightly, and she stares at the monitor as she types a few keys.
The Manager Takes Over
A second man in a crisp white shirt and dark tie steps out of an office behind them. He walks quickly across the showroom floor, heading straight for the older man. He reaches out, taking the customer’s hand in a firm grip, and turns to the salesman.
The manager asks if the salesman has been waiting for the customer. When the salesman tries to explain, the manager interrupts him, confirming that the older man reserved the SUV the previous day. The manager takes a digital tablet from his colleague’s hand and looks down at it.
The salesman stands still, his hands moving to his sides. He looks down at the floor, his mouth pressed into a thin line. The manager tells the salesman that he should have been welcomed the moment he entered the building. He informs the salesman that he is off the sales floor for the rest of the day.
The manager turns his attention back to the customer. He expresses regret for the situation and offers a small smile. He reaches out, gesturing toward the office, and the customer begins to walk with him. The manager follows alongside, motioning for the customer to proceed while the salesman watches them walk toward the office doors.
