A Mother Fallen on the Asphalt
An eagle lay flat on its back on the gravel shoulder, its wings spread wide and motionless under the sun. Beside the collapsed bird, two small, fluffy chicks stood close, chirping weakly as cars sped past.
The mother bird did not move when tires rumbled nearby, her eyes glazed as she baked on the hot ground.
