Store Manager Reviews Security Camera Footage After Worker Finds Lost Wallet

Finding The Wallet On The Asphalt

A calloused hand reached down to the cracked asphalt, lifting a dark brown leather wallet from the ground.

The elderly worker stood beside a long row of metal shopping carts in the middle of the quiet parking lot. Dust settled around his dark boots as he adjusted the shoulder straps of his bright neon yellow safety vest.

He turned the thick brown leather over in his hands, tilting his head slightly to inspect the edges before lifting his chin to scan the open spaces around him. The parking lot was largely empty, save for a few parked sedans off in the distance.

Without seeing anyone nearby, he slid the heavy leather wallet into his front trousers pocket. He stepped back toward the blue plastic handle of the lead shopping cart, gripped it firmly with both hands, and began pushing the long metal line toward the store doors.

Reviewing The Surveillance Feed

Inside a cramped security office filled with metal shelving and stacked archive boxes, the store manager sat in his swivel chair holding a ceramic coffee mug.

Four overhead monitors displayed live and recorded feeds from different corners of the retail property. The manager took a sip from his mug, his eyes tracing the movement across the screen grids.

Suddenly, his arm jerked, sending a wave of dark coffee spilling over the rim of his mug and onto the printed documents scattered across his desk.

He did not wipe the desk or set the cup down. Instead, he leaned forward until his nose was inches from a small black-and-white monitor displaying camera feed 100713:5:33.

The recording showed a man in a short-sleeved shirt and glasses standing inside a storage room. The man opened a cabinet door, reached onto a shelf, and removed a small black safe box before hiding it under his arm.

The manager stared at the screen, his jaw tightening as he watched the individual close the cabinet door and walk out of the frame.

Checking The Manager’s Desk Drawer

The manager stood up, his dark trousers brushing against the edge of his desk. He reached down to the keyhole of his wooden desk drawer, pulled it open with a metallic slide, and looked inside.

Resting directly on top of a pile of white paper files and a brass key ring was the brown leather wallet.

The manager reached down, touching the edge of the leather with his finger, before abruptly shutting the drawer back into the desk frame.

He rounded his desk, stepped over the brown puddle drying on the concrete floor, and shoved open the heavy door leading into the main hallway.

He moved briskly through the store aisles, his polished black shoes clicking against the linoleum floor until he reached the double sliding glass doors at the front entrance.

A Meeting In The Parking Lot

Bright daylight hit his eyes as he stepped onto the outdoor pavement. He spotted the yellow safety vest moving across the gray asphalt, several hundred yards away near a collection bay.

The manager broke into a run, sprinting across the empty parking spaces. His light blue button-down shirt fluttered in the breeze, and his dark blue necktie swung across his chest with every stride.

The cart attendant turned around at the sound of heavy footsteps on the cracked ground. He stopped his row of shopping carts and waited as the manager closed the distance between them.

The manager stopped right in front of the older man, catching his breath. He extended his right hand out wide.

The cart attendant reached out his worn, weather-beaten hand to meet it. Their hands clasped together in a firm grip.

The manager bent his knees slightly, tilting his head downward toward the ground as he held the worker’s hand with both of his own.

The elderly worker smiled, his graying hair showing beneath his dark baseball cap, and rested his palm gently on the store manager’s shoulder.
