A Secret Test On The Marble Floor
A bristle brush scraped across polished white marble as the young maid dragged it back and forth along the bottom step of a grand staircase.
From the top landing, her employer stepped into view, dressed in a sleek cream-colored dress and high heels. The woman let a thick gold chain slide through her fingers, letting it fall onto the shiny tile floor below before walking away without a sound.
Moments later, the maid pushed a heavy vacuum cleaner over the marble surface. The metallic clink of the suction head hitting the floor stopped cold as her eyes locked onto the glittering gold chain lying in plain sight.
She lowered the vacuum hose and knelt on the cold floor, picking up the heavy jewelry between her fingers. Her brow furrowed as she looked around the vast open hallway, completely unaware that two people were watching her silently from the glass balcony above.
Instead of slipping the valuable item into her apron pocket, the maid stood up and walked toward her employer. She held out both hands, placing the heavy gold necklace directly into the woman’s open palms.
Another Trap Scattered Across The Room
The following afternoon, the maid returned to her routine, pushing the vacuum across the same expansive marble hallway.
As she rounded the base of the staircase, a fan of green paper caught her eye. Several hundred-dollar bills lay scattered across the pristine floor, right in the middle of her path.
Up on the upper floor, the homeowner leaning against the railing leaned forward slightly, watching every move down below. Beside her stood a young man, his arm resting on the glass, maintaining a distant gaze.
The maid dropped down onto both knees. Her fingers carefully collected every bill off the cold tile, smoothing out the crumpled edges one by one until she had gathered every last piece of cash.
She squared her shoulders, gripped the stack of bills tightly, and walked straight toward the woman standing nearby.
A Surprising Turn Of Events
Extending her arm, the maid handed the stack of money back to the homeowner. The woman took the cash, smiled gently, and placed a hand firmly on the maid’s shoulder, leaning in to whisper words of quiet appreciation.
A few moments later, the young man leaning on the balcony upstairs gestured with his arm, calling down to get her attention. He raised his hand, holding up a sleek black key fob adorned with a bright red ribbon.
The maid gasped, her hands immediately flying up to cover her mouth. Tears filled her eyes as her lower lip trembled, her chest rising and falling quickly in complete disbelief.
Her employer placed a comforting hand on her back, guiding her toward the grand front entrance of the mansion.
A Brand New Beginning
Both tall wooden front doors swung wide open to reveal the bright sunlight streaming into the foyer.
Parked directly in the center of the driveway was a brand-new white sedan, fitted with a giant red bow wrapped across its hood.
The maid stood between the two homeowners in the open doorway, clutching her hands to her chest as tears ran down her cheeks while she laughed through her tears at the sight parked in front of her.
