A Dangerous Morning Entanglement
The young foal’s left front leg slipped between two taut strands of fence wire, locking the slender limb firmly in place.
Every slight shift pulled the tension tighter against the young horse’s joint.
Just a few yards away in the damp morning grass, the brown mare stood with her ears pinned forward, watching every movement.
A worker stepped out from the white pickup truck parked along the pasture boundary.
Careful Steps In The Wet Grass
Wearing heavy leather work gloves and a brown canvas jacket, the rescuer dropped both knees into the clover.
The foal blinked, keeping its head held high while shifting its weight back onto its hind legs.
Rushing could easily cause the young horse to thrash, which would tighten the metal strands against the thin skin of its lower leg.
The rescuer extended one gloved hand slowly toward the lower wire strand beneath the foal’s hoof.
The mother horse lowered her head, taking two slow steps closer across the green pasture.
Working The Wire Free
With firm pressure, the worker pulled the lower wire downward toward the soil to create a gap.
The upper wire remained pressed along the foal’s knee, keeping the limb pinned upright.
Using both hands, the worker gripped the top line, pulling it upward to relieve the binding pressure.
“Easy, easy boy,” the rescuer murmured in a low, level tone while maintaining tension on both wires.
The foal lifted its hoof slightly, testing the newly opened space between the metal lines.
With one smooth motion, the worker guided the small hoof through the gap and set it down on solid ground.
Reunion Across The Mist
The foal stepped backward onto the clover, shaking out its front leg with a quick, fluid motion.
It paused for a brief second, nose pointed toward the rescuer crouching by the fence line.
Turning on its hooves, the foal broke into a brisk trot across the damp pasture.
The mare lowered her muzzle, touching noses with the youngster as soon as it reached her side.
Both horses turned together and walked side by side into the morning mist toward the open field.
