A Sudden Collapse Leaves Her Pinned
A woman’s fingers scrambled against the smooth concrete floor as a heavy dark wood table pressed down across her lower back.
Dark coffee spread across the woven rug beside her tipped ceramic mug. Her breath hitched as she struggled to shift the solid timber frame resting across her body.
Beside her, a golden retriever puppy tilted his head, watching her fingers stretch outward. He nudged his nose against the rug, took two quick steps backward, and turned toward the open living area.
His small paws scurried across the polished floor, slipping slightly before gaining traction toward the floor-to-ceiling glass patio doors.
Reaching Out For Help Through The Glass
The puppy jumped upward, planting both front paws flat against the glass pane. Outside on the lawn, a gardener pushed a red lawnmower through the green grass.
The dog scratched repeatedly at the glass, barking in short, rapid bursts. The man outside cut the mower engine and turned toward the patio doors.
He wiped his gloved brow and looked through the glass, spotting the dog standing on its hind legs. Behind the puppy, beneath the tilted table, the woman raised one hand toward the window.
The gardener dropped his work gloves onto the grass. He pulled a mobile phone from his pocket, pressed it to his ear, and kept his eyes fixed on the room inside.
Coordinated Rescue Beneath Heavy Timber
Two first responders arrived inside the apartment carrying heavy yellow ratchet straps and wooden stabilization blocks. They knelt on both sides of the fallen table.
One responder slid rectangular wooden shims under the edges of the tabletop, building a solid base inch by inch. The other threaded a wide yellow strap across the frame to secure the load.
They coordinated their grip, lifting the weight straight up to create clearance. The woman pulled her legs forward, sliding out from under the wooden frame.
The puppy stood right beside the edge of the rug, wagging his tail rapidly as the table rested securely on the timber blocks.
Reunited On The Floor
With the weight off her back, the woman sat up on the patterned rug. She pulled the golden retriever puppy into her arms, pressing her cheek against his soft golden fur.
The puppy licked her chin and wagged his tail while the two first responders stood nearby, watching the reunion with broad smiles.
