The security guard looms over the seated man, his shadow swallowing the frail figure in the plastic chair.
The Unseen Burden
“Hey old man, why are you sitting here?” the officer barks, his voice echoing through the sterile waiting room. The elderly man, dressed in a simple flannel shirt and worn trousers, looks up with exhausted eyes.
“I’m just waiting, please let me sit for a little while,” he pleads softly. The guard doesn’t care about the man’s fatigue or the heavy silence hanging over him. To the officer, this is just another loiterer taking up space.
He reaches down, grabbing the man’s arm to force him upright. “You people just come here to waste space, go outside!” he commands, completely unaware of the ticking clock behind the operating room doors.
A Secret Identity Revealed
Suddenly, a nurse rushes forward, her face pale with concern as she gently guides the man back into his seat. “Sir, are you okay? Please, you don’t need to go anywhere,” she says, her voice trembling with respect.
Before the guard can protest, a doctor in a white lab coat emerges from the hallway. He ignores the officer and walks straight to the elderly man, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
“Mr. William, congratulations, your wife’s operation was successful,” the doctor announces. The guard’s confusion turns to sudden dread as the doctor turns to the room with a sharp look in his eye.
The Price Of Arrogance
“Do you all know who this man is?” the doctor asks, his voice cutting through the tension. “He is the owner of this hospital.” The guard’s face drains of color as the world shifts beneath his feet.
The man he just tried to throw out on the street is the same man who signs the checks. The officer stammers an apology, his bravado replaced by pure terror. He waits for the inevitable termination, but the owner simply looks at him with a tired, kind smile.
“It’s okay, son,” the man says quietly. “Just remember… be kind to everyone.”
