An elderly man in a dark coat stood calmly at a gas pump, oblivious to the ticking time bomb right in front of him. Beside him, his fluffy white dog suddenly became restless, pawing at the pump as if trying to warn him.
The hair on his neck stood up — the dog let out a sharp, urgent bark, practically jumping against the machine. The man finally realized that something was horribly wrong as thick, ominous clouds of vapor began spewing from the pump.
He didn’t wait to investigate. He shouted, scrambled away from the station, and bolted toward the convenience store with his canine companion right at his heels.
Panic gripped the room — inside the store, the man didn’t hesitate for a second. He threw his arms up, shouting for everyone to get out immediately, his voice filled with an urgency that made the other patrons drop everything and run.
The group of men burst through the sliding doors, their feet pounding against the pavement as they sprinted away from the station. They were only a few dozen yards out when the air behind them turned into a wall of fire.
A deafening roar shattered the silence — a massive explosion tore the gas station apart, sending debris flying high into the dark, overcast sky. The blast was so powerful it seemed to rip the very air out of the scene.
Despite the chaos and the towering inferno that once was a place of business, the group emerged unscathed. As the flames settled into a charred skeleton of metal and smoke, the men gathered around the white dog, their faces showing nothing but pure, unadulterated gratitude.
