The Puppy Clings To The Crumbling Riverbank Edge
Small claws dig into the dry, vertical mud of the riverbank as the golden retriever puppy slides downward. Below, a large crocodile waits in the murky water with its mouth open. The puppy holds onto a thin root while the predator snaps its jaws inches from the dog’s back legs.
Above the ledge, a larger golden retriever paces and barks at the water. The older dog looks down at the puppy and then turns away from the cliff. It sprints across the flat, grassy field toward a man sitting by a different section of the water.
The man sits on a black bucket, holding a fishing rod. The older dog jumps against his chest and barks loudly. The man sets his rod on the ground and stands up. He looks toward the cliff where the dog came from.
The dog runs back toward the ledge, looking over its shoulder to ensure the man follows. The man picks up the black bucket, which is filled with small, silver fish. He begins to run across the dirt path, following the golden retriever.
A Clever Distraction Near The Water Surface
The puppy continues to hang from the mud wall. Its hind legs kick at the air as the crocodile lunges upward, creating a large splash. The predator’s teeth click together just below the puppy’s tail. The older dog reaches the edge first and barks down at the water.
The man arrives at the top of the steep bank and looks over the side. He shifts the weight of the bucket to his right hand. He leans forward, watching the crocodile’s movements in the brown river water below.
He tilts the bucket and pours several fish directly toward the crocodile’s head. The fish hit the water with a series of small splashes. The crocodile immediately turns its body away from the puppy to snap at the falling food.
The man pours more fish into a different spot further out in the river. The predator follows the trail of food, swimming away from the base of the muddy cliff. The puppy remains stuck, its fur covered in brown dust as it tries to pull itself upward.
The Final Pull To Safety Above The Cliff
With the crocodile distracted by the fish, the man kneels on the grass. He reaches one arm down the side of the bank. His fingers brush against the puppy’s scruff as the older dog watches from the side.
He grips the puppy firmly and lifts it upward. The puppy’s legs scramble against the man’s jeans as he pulls it over the ledge. He sets the small dog down on the flat ground away from the water’s edge.
The man picks up his empty black bucket and stands. The puppy shakes the dust from its coat while the older dog nudges it with its nose. The man turns and begins walking back toward his original fishing spot.
The two dogs follow close behind his boots, moving through the green grass of the field. The man carries the bucket in one hand as they walk away from the riverbank together.
