The Interaction Outside The Entrance
A black luxury car pulls to a stop in front of the hotel entrance. A man in a dark navy suit steps out, checking his reflection in the glass door. He glances down to see a person sitting on the pavement with a metal plate in their lap. The person in the suit stops, shifts his weight, and points a finger downward. His head tilts slightly to one side as he gestures toward the sidewalk.
He speaks, his mouth forming sharp, clipped shapes. He gestures toward the street, demanding that the person move away from the hotel entrance. The man on the ground keeps his head tilted back, watching the suit-wearer from below. His hands stay resting on his knees. He offers a brief, quiet explanation, but the man in the suit does not listen.
The man in the suit steps forward, his polished leather shoe connecting with the edge of the metal plate. The plate slides across the stone, metal grinding against concrete. Coins scatter in different directions, spinning on the ground before coming to a stop. The man in the suit stands tall, his hands pushed deep into his trouser pockets, watching the coins settle.
The Walk Into The Lobby
He turns on his heel and strides through the revolving glass doors. His pace is steady, his shoulders pulled back. He stops at the marble front desk inside the hotel. A staff member stands behind a computer screen, looking up at him. He mentions his name and notes his arrival for the executive manager interview.
The employee nods and looks down at her keyboard. She tells him the CEO will see him now. The man in the suit keeps his hands in his pockets, nodding once. He looks back toward the glass entrance where the person is still sitting on the pavement. He waves a hand toward the door, telling the receptionist to clear the entrance of the person outside.
The employee’s face tightens. Her eyebrows draw inward and her lip pulls slightly downward. She stares at the man for a beat, saying nothing as he turns away. The man walks toward the inner office with a rhythmic, confident stride. He adjusts his jacket buttons as he approaches the heavy wooden door of the executive suite.
The Confrontation In The Office
The door swings open. The man enters the spacious office, looking toward the large desk at the far end of the room. A man sits in a leather chair behind the desk, framed by floor-to-ceiling windows showing the city skyline. The man behind the desk looks up, his expression unmoving. He rests his hands on a stack of paper.
The job applicant slows his walk as he realizes who is sitting in the chair. He stops completely, his hands sliding out of his pockets. He shifts his weight from side to side, his eyes darting between the man in the chair and the office decor. The man at the desk says something, gesturing to a seat in front of the desk.
The applicant’s jaw goes slack. He remains standing, his hands hanging limp at his sides. He looks down at the floor, his chin dropping toward his chest. The CEO slides a single piece of paper across the polished wood surface. The applicant stares at the document, his gaze fixed on the center of the page. He does not reach for the chair. He stands in the center of the room, his shoulders dropping, as the silence holds between the two men.
