Watch This Kind Driver Free A Trapped Duck And Feed Her Babies

An Unexpected Roadside Emergency

A brown mallard lay pinned against the asphalt of a lakeside road, her feathers tangled in a heavy green net. She struggled to lift her head, her body bound tight to the pavement as the plastic cords dug into her wings.

Around her, nine tiny, fluffy ducklings huddled close, pacing back and forth in a tight circle on the road. They peeped continuously, refusing to leave their mother’s side even as a large white vehicle approached on the narrow asphalt path.

The white SUV slowed to a halt just a few feet from the birds, blocking the single lane. The driver’s side door swung open, and a woman in a white shirt and blue jeans stepped out onto the gravel shoulder.

She walked forward with slow, deliberate steps, keeping her eyes fixed on the struggling birds. The ducklings chirped louder, but they did not run away as she approached.

Cutting the Tangles Free

The woman knelt on the road, lowering her hands toward the distressed mother duck to assess the situation. The ducklings scattered a few inches into the roadside grass but kept their eyes locked on her.

She reached into her pocket and pulled out a pair of black-handled scissors. She carefully slipped the lower blade under the tightest green strands wrapped around the duck’s wing joints.

With quick, precise snips, the woman cut through the thick plastic cords. The ducklings watched from the edge of the grass, their small heads bobbing up and down as the heavy net began to loosen from their mother’s back.

The woman worked her fingers beneath the remaining mesh, lifting the cords away from the bird’s delicate wings. She snipped the final loop wrapped near the duck’s neck and pulled the green pile away, tossing it onto the road behind her.

Providing Vital Care

Instead of running or flying off, the weakened mother duck remained still on the asphalt, her energy depleted. The woman reached back into her car and brought out a clean white towel.

She gently draped the soft fabric over the mallard’s back, wrapping her body to keep her warm and prevent her from thrashing. The mother duck settled her chest onto the ground, her breathing slowing down under the gentle weight of the towel.

The woman then produced a small dropper bottle filled with liquid nutrients. She carefully placed the tip of the dropper near the duck’s bill, squeezing a few drops so the bird could swallow them easily.

The ducklings grew bolder, stepping out from the tall grass to gather around the woman’s knees. They chirped softly, crowding close as they watched their mother receive the treatment.

A Shared Roadside Feast

With the mother duck out of immediate danger, the woman opened her palm to reveal a handful of yellow corn and grains. She scattered the feed directly onto the asphalt in front of the resting bird’s bill.

The mother duck immediately stretched her neck forward and began pecking at the grain. Her babies rushed in beside her, their tiny bills tapping rapidly against the pavement as they joined the feast.

The woman sat back on her heels, watching the family eat together on the roadside. The white SUV sat parked quietly behind them, its hazard lights blinking against the backdrop of the dark pine forest and the calm lake.
