A Cold Sidewalk and a Loyal Friend
The brown dog leaned its snout toward the clear plastic cup as water poured over the brim onto the concrete floor.
On a busy city sidewalk, commuters rushed past a man sitting quietly against a red brick wall. Nobody slowed down to drop spare change into the paper cup resting on his knees.
Instead of drinking the last drops of fresh water himself, the man tipped his plastic bottle to fill a makeshift cup for his companion. The dog lapped up the clear liquid greedily while the man rested a hand gently over its golden fur.
Footsteps continued to echo along the pavement as well-dressed pedestrians moved back and forth. The man called out asking if anyone could spare some change, but people kept walking past without turning around.
An Unexpected Drop on the Sidewalk
A businessman in a dark suit walked briskly past the corner where the pair sat resting. As he strode near the brick wall, a small black drawstring pouch slipped unnoticed from his possession and hit the pavement.
The man called out again, asking for assistance, but the businessman continued down the street toward the crosswalk. He had no idea his lost pouch was lying on the ground behind him.
The dog raised its head, its dark eyes locking onto the black fabric resting near the curb. It lifted its chest from the concrete and stood up on all four paws.
Stepping forward carefully, the dog lowered its head and nudged the black pouch before lifting it up between its teeth. With steady steps, it trotted directly down the sidewalk toward the walking businessman.
A Small Gesture Returned
The dog stopped right in front of the businessman’s brown shoes and lifted its head to hold out the black pouch. The man halted in his tracks, looking down at his feet to find the golden dog holding the lost item.
His hands reached down to take the drawstring bag into his palms. He checked the pouch and let out a quick breath before turning back toward the corner where the seated man waited.
Moments later, the businessman returned carrying a heavy paper bag packed with warm food and a large water bottle. He crouched low onto the sidewalk right beside the man and his dog.
He handed over the clean water and set the grocery bag down into the man’s hands, shaking his hand firmly in appreciation.
A Meal Shared Together
The businessman unpacked a clear plastic container filled with dog food and set it down onto the stone floor. The dog immediately lowered its head and began crunching on the kibble, its tail swaying from side to side.
Beside his companion, the man unwrapped a fresh sandwich from the paper bag and took a bite, leaning back comfortably against the brick wall.
The camera captures the dog eating peacefully from its bowl on the sidewalk while the man eats his sandwich right beside it.
