Wild Coyote Lunges At Baby Goat Before Passing Cyclist Steps Up

A Sudden Clash On The Path

The coyote dipped its front shoulders low, snapping its jaws inches from the white kid’s hind legs. The mother goat lowered her long curved horns and thrust forward, blocking the predator’s path on the narrow asphalt lane.

Behind the handlebars of a bicycle, a rider pedaled straight toward the scuffle, raising his voice to shout across the empty field.

The wild canine spun around on four paws, scrambled over the roadside ditch, and vanished through the wooden fence into the thick tree line.

Calming Down By The Grass

With the predator gone, the mother goat slowed her stride and turned her head toward the cyclist. The small white kid pressed tightly against her flank, taking quick, uneven steps along the warm pavement.

The rider put his foot down against the gravel shoulder and spoke in a steady tone. Both goats drifted toward the grassy verge, dipping their muzzles into the fresh clover and yellow dandelions beside the split-rail fence.

The cyclist reached down into the tall grass, pulling a handful of fresh green shoots from the dirt. He extended his open palm toward the two animals.

Trust On Two Wheels

The mother goat stretched her neck forward and nibbled gently at the leaves. Right beside her, the kid raised its tiny snout, pulling several stems directly from the palm of the cyclist’s hand.

The rider rubbed the top of the kid’s soft white back with his fingers while the youngster chewed quietly.

Pushing off from the gravel, the cyclist began pedaling slowly down the center of the lane. The mother goat and her kid matched his speed, trotting side by side directly behind the rear bicycle tire as the path curved through the green pastures.
