Officer Demands Janitor Leave The Corridor As Courtroom Doors Open

The Morning Sweep

A pair of worn work boots shuffled across the polished marble floor as an elderly man pushed a wide mop back and forth.

His movements were slow and measured along the empty corridor. In the distance, heavy footsteps echoed off the tall walls as a security guard marched straight toward him.

The officer pointed a stiff finger directly at the mop head. He demanded the entire cart be cleared out within five minutes for the morning session.

The older man kept both hands on the wooden handle. He quietly replied that he was nearly finished with the section right outside the heavy wooden doors.

A Stern Demand

The guard grabbed the metal frame of the yellow cleaning cart and shoved it back. He pointed down the hallway, insisting the worker take his tools and disappear down the back stairs.

The man in the blue jumpsuit did not move his feet. He looked up and asked the officer to check the nameplate mounted beside the entrance.

The guard stepped closer, chest puffed out and chin raised. He stated firmly that he already knew exactly whose courtroom was inside, giving one final order to clear the area immediately.

The worker set the mop against the wall and reached into the blue supply caddy. His hand wrapped around a bundle of folded black fabric and pulled out a clipped lanyard.

The ID Badge

He held the card flat against his palm and extended it into the guard’s field of view. The officer leaned down, his brow furrowing as his eyes scanned the printed text across the top.

The words read Judge Carter above an official municipal seal. The officer’s mouth fell open, his shoulders dropping two inches as he pulled back his hand.

The judge slid his arms into the wide sleeves of the black robe. He pulled the collar straight, looking directly at the officer who now stood with his hands pressed flat against his trouser seams.

The officer began stammering an explanation about assuming he was janitorial staff. The judge cut him off, asking if treating any maintenance worker that way was ever permitted on the premises.

The Final Word

The officer lowered his chin toward his chest, offering only a quiet confirmation of fault. He kept his eyes locked onto the floor tiles, his hands remaining rigidly at his sides.

Judge Carter raised a single finger toward the main corridor. He instructed the guard to step away from the entrance immediately, noting that an incident report would reach his supervisor before the first gavel fell.

The officer turned on his heel and stood motionless against the wall. Judge Carter pushed the heavy wooden courtroom door open and walked inside, letting the latch click shut behind him.
