An Unwelcome Visitor on Polished Floors
An older man with gray hair stepped slowly across the gleaming showroom floor, his worn work boots squeaking against the polished tile.
Holes pitted his faded brown tweed jacket, and the knees of his denim jeans were frayed open at the seams.
He stopped beside a sleek black sports car, running his eyes along the curved hood and carbon-fiber accents.
A salesman in a sharply tailored navy suit immediately stepped into his path, crossing his arms and narrowing his eyes.
“Sir, are you actually shopping here?” the salesman asked, his voice cutting across the quiet showroom.
The Confrontation by the Sports Car
The older man did not step back. “I’m interested in that car,” he replied evenly, gesturing toward the vehicle.
A loud laugh broke from the salesman’s throat as he shook his head and stepped closer.
“Then you should probably shop somewhere else,” the salesman said, leaning forward to close the distance between them.
The older man reached out and picked up an informational spec sheet resting beside the display stand.
Before he could turn the page, the salesman snatched the paper straight from his hands.
“Give that back,” the salesman snapped, shaking the sheet in the air. “You can’t afford this car. People like you come in here just to waste my time.”
The older man met his gaze directly without flinching. “You’re making a serious mistake.”
“Get out,” the salesman barked, thrusting a finger toward the glass entrance doors.
An Unexpected Arrival From the Back Office
Footsteps echoed sharply from the hallway behind them as a second employee in a black suit hurried forward.
The newcomer pushed past the display vehicles, his eyes wide and his hands outstretched.
“Mr. Carter!” the employee called out, stopping abruptly beside the older man.
The employee turned toward the salesman, pointing an open hand at the man in the torn jacket. “He owns this dealership.”
The salesman’s mouth dropped open. His arms fell limp at his sides, and the color drained from his face.
“Dealership?” the salesman stammered, his eyes darting between the two men.
Mr. Carter turned fully toward him, his eyebrows raised. “Now you can explain yourself.”
“Sir, I didn’t know—” the salesman began, lifting one trembling hand.
Mr. Carter held up a palm to cut him off. “That’s exactly the problem. Your judgment cost you more than a sale today.”
Standing Firm on the Showroom Floor
The salesman lowered his chin, staring down at the polished floor tiles as the other employee looked on with a scowl.
Mr. Carter turned his back on the salesman and looked out over the floor lined with luxury vehicles.
“Treat every customer with respect,” Mr. Carter stated, standing square-shouldered in the middle of the aisle in his torn jacket while the salesman remained motionless behind him.
