Tiny Gosling Gets Tangled In Field Wire While Parents Call Out

Trapped Along The Muddy Waterline

A tiny yellow gosling kicked its webbed feet frantically against the wet earth, pinned flat beneath a row of wire mesh netting.

Its beak poked straight down toward the muddy puddle below, unable to push forward or pull backward through the narrow metal grid.

A few yards behind the small bird, two adult Canada geese paced back and forth along the raised ridge of the tulip field.

The parents stretched their long black necks upward, honking sharply into the gray air while keeping their eyes fixed on the struggling chick.

Careful Hands In The Mud

A worker wearing tall black rubber boots and a green field jacket stepped into the frame, crouching low in the dark soil beside the water trench.

She reached out with black-gloved hands, lowering her posture to match the level of the small bird caught in the chicken wire.

“Easy, easy buddy,” she murmured softly, leaning close over the netting.

Her gloved fingers took hold of the top strands of wire, gently pulling them upward to inspect where the bird’s down feathers had caught.

The gosling stopped kicking for a moment, pressing its body flat against the damp mud while the woman assessed the tangle.

The thin metal strands were wrapped firmly around the chick’s torso, pinning its miniature wings tightly against its sides.

Loosening The Wire Strand By Strand

Working methodically, the rescuer used both thumbs and forefingers to widen each individual hexagonal loop of the mesh.

She lifted one side of the wire barrier, millimeter by millimeter, ensuring the sharp metal ends did not scrape across the chick’s soft yellow down.

The adult geese continued their rhythmic honking from the bank, watching every slight movement of her gloved hands.

With a slow, upward pinch, she worked the gosling’s left wing free from the loop.

She shifted her grip to the bird’s flank, gently easing the small body backward through the opened gap.

The chick wiggled slightly, its head lifting clear of the muddy trench as the remaining wire slipped off its tail feathers.

Supporting its chest with both palms, she lifted the chick entirely away from the metal fence and placed its orange feet down onto the muddy ledge.

Rejoining The Flock

The gosling stood upright on the wet dirt for a split second, shaking its damp feathers and blinking toward the open path.

It pivoted toward the narrow water channel running between the muddy bank and the long rows of blooming tulips.

With a quick forward hop, the tiny bird dropped into the standing water.

Its small feet began churning beneath the surface, cutting a clean ripple through the brown water straight toward the two adult geese waiting at the far end of the furrow.
