An Injured Puppy Pleads For Help
The golden retriever puppy sat on the dusty gravel shoulder, raising its bandaged left hind leg off the sharp stones.
A white sedan rushed past, kicking up a cloud of grey dust that coated the puppy’s golden coat.
The small dog lifted its nose toward the sky and let out a high-pitched, rasping yip toward the disappearing vehicle.
Another large red pickup truck sped by, its massive tires roaring loudly against the dry asphalt.
The puppy raised its front right paw, balancing precariously on its injured rear legs as it whimpered at the passing truck.
Vehicle after vehicle ignored the tiny golden figure sitting inches away from the white traffic line.
The puppy dropped its head, staring down at the dirt between its front paws with drooping ears.
Its hind legs remained wrapped in thick white medical bandages, keeping it anchored to the roadside.
A Blue Car Finally Pulls Over
A dark blue sedan slowed down, its brake lights glowing red as it pulled onto the shoulder directly in front of the dog.
The engine quieted, and the driver’s side door swung open wide.
A man wearing a dark grey t-shirt and blue jeans stepped out onto the gravel road.
He walked directly toward the puppy with slow, calm steps to avoid startling the animal.
The puppy did not try to crawl away; it simply watched the man approach, its body tense but still.
The man dropped down to his knees on the rough stones, bringing himself down to the puppy’s level.
He reached out a hand, letting the puppy sniff his fingers before gently stroking the side of the dog’s neck.
The puppy leaned its head slightly into the man’s warm hand, its breathing slowing down.
Taking The Puppy Safety Inside
The man slid his large hands underneath the puppy’s chest and abdomen, supporting its bandaged hind legs.
He lifted the dog up to his chest, cradling its weight securely against his shirt.
Walking over to the passenger side of the blue sedan, he opened the door with one hand.
He placed the golden puppy gently onto the soft grey fabric of the passenger seat.
The man climbed into the driver’s seat, buckled his seatbelt, and shifted the car’s gear stick into drive.
As the car moved smoothly down the highway, the puppy sat upright on the seat, looking straight ahead.
Its ears perked up slightly as the green forest landscape rolled past outside the passenger window.
The puppy shifted its weight, resting its bandaged paws on the seat cushion while looking over at the driver.
A Warm Meal And A Safe Place
Inside a brightly lit living room, the man knelt on the floor next to a comfortable grey sofa.
The golden retriever puppy lay relaxed on a soft grey blanket draped over the couch cushions.
The man held a small metal bowl filled with food directly up to the puppy’s snout.
The puppy immediately began to eat, licking the food from the bowl with a steady rhythm.
The man smiled, using his right hand to gently stroke the soft golden fur on top of the puppy’s head.
